Grapefruit 20L (Star Ruby)

Star Ruby grapefruit is a variety of Citrus paradisi that was originally found growing as a sport on a grapefruit tree in San Benito, Texas in the 1930’s. In botanical terms the word sport refers to a natural mutation that occurs on any type of plant. Further breeding of the Star Ruby variety was conducted at the R. A. Hensz breeding program at Texas A & I University in Welasco, Texas. The seeds of a Hudson grapefruit, a pink variety, were irradiated and selectively bred to produce a deeply pigmented less seedy grapefruit.

Grapefruits provide of vitamin C, B complex vitamins, zinc, copper, iron , potassium, and dietary fiber. Specifically, Star Ruby grapefruits are an excellent source of vitamin A and supply the highest levels of lycopene of all grapefruits.
